Taste Treasures

My family doesn’t go to the movies or the mall all that often, in fact hardly at all. What we will do however is go out to eat – A LOT!!!!!  But we sometimes fall into a rut of going to the same places over and over. That’s why its fun for us to try and find those new spots or hidden away places that can become our new faves.

Now, I’m what you might call “Ultra Picky” when it comes to Mexican food.  I want the real deal, not some chain or tex-mex crap. And I’m usually pretty loyal when it comes to my local margarita joint. However, I was talking to a guy who was doing some concrete work for me, and he told me about a local place much closer than the one I have been going to. Talk about a hidden gem! This place is hidden to say the least! It’s tucked away behind a waffle house, a cell phone store, and is actually sharing the bathroom facilities with a Quality Inn.  Sounds strange I know, but this place rocks!  In fact – since we found out about it, we’ve been hitting it up every Friday night. We see the same local folks all the time and the family that runs the joint couldn’t be better people.

In terms of food, I have never had better fajitas, and the salsa is off the hook.  The margaritas are okay, but they serve Dos Equis in giant frozen mugs so cold that the beer gets icy!  I’m always trying something new here and I have never been disappointed. This weeks experiment was the papas de carne. Baked potatoes, covered in steak, bacon, onion, peppers, and queso!!!!  Good lord, I could hear the angels sing!

To think that I never would’ve thought to try this place (or even known it was there) if I hadn’t been talking it up with this concrete guy who looked like he could rip the head off your shoulders! It’s definitely what I would call a Taste Treasure. Five Stars. If you are an East Tennessee local be sure to check out Cinco Amigos in Lenoir City.
